Advanced Caregiving+: Comprehensive Care
This final advanced training module equips caregivers and healthcare assistants with critical emergency response skills, geriatric mental health & dementia communication strategies, and compassionate palliative & end-of-life care competencies. Combined with a full integrated practical assessment, this course consolidates all core caregiving skills learnt across Day 1–3 for real-world complex patient care scenarios.

Course Summary: Advanced Care Management
This course contains 6 core training modules plus a mandatory Final Practical Assessment, fully aligned with Day 4 comprehensive caregiving training agenda:
Module 1: Basic First Aid

Burns and fractures
Module breakdown:
Learn how to quickly identify common medical emergencies in elderly and dependent patients. Master foundational first aid skills including basic wound cleaning & dressing, effective bleeding control methods, and safe care approaches for burn and fracture injuries to stabilise patients before professional medical support arrives.
Module 2: CPR and AED Awareness

Chain of survival
Adult CPR
AED operation
Choking management
Module breakdown:
Understand the complete chain of survival for cardiac and respiratory emergencies. Walk through step-by-step adult CPR procedures, safe automated external defibrillator (AED) setup and usage, and back-blow & abdominal thrust techniques for conscious and unconscious choking victims of all ages.
Module 3: Observation and Reporting

Recognizing deterioration
Changes in consciousness
Signs of infection
Escalation procedures
Module breakdown:
Build systematic patient monitoring skills to spot early warning signs of clinical decline. Learn to track altered consciousness levels, identify key infection indicators, and follow standard escalation protocols to notify nurses, doctors or emergency services promptly with complete, accurate patient observations.
Module 4: Mental Health and Behaviour Management

Depression in older adults
Anxiety management
Managing challenging behaviours
Emotional support techniques

Explore common mental health challenges affecting ageing adults including late-life depression and chronic anxiety. Learn de-escalation and behavioural intervention strategies for agitated or distressed patients, plus gentle emotional support communication techniques to reduce psychological distress..
Module 5: Dementia Communication Skills

Understanding dementia
Communication techniques
Managing agitation and confusion

Module breakdown:
Gain dementia-specific communication frameworks tailored to patients with cognitive decline. Master calm, patient language to reduce confusion and agitation, learn how to guide family members to connect meaningfully with their loved ones living with dementia, and minimise behavioural crisis triggers.
Module 6: Palliative and End-of-Life Care

• Principles of palliative care
• Comfort measures
• Pain observation
• Supporting patients and families
• Maintaining dignity at end of life
Module breakdown:
Learn the core person-centred philosophy of palliative care focused on comfort and quality of life. Master routine comfort positioning and symptom relief interventions, how to observe and document pain levels, deliver emotional support to both patients and grieving families, and uphold full patient dignity through all end-of-life stages.
Overall Course Outcomes
By the end of this Advanced+ 401 comprehensive course, participants will have the necessary skills to:
Identify common medical emergencies and deliver basic first aid for wounds, bleeding, burns and fractures
Perform adult CPR, safely operate an AED, and manage choking incidents following the chain of survival framework
Monitor patients for clinical deterioration, altered consciousness and infection signs, and follow formal escalation reporting procedures
Recognise elderly depression and anxiety, manage challenging patient behaviours and provide compassionate emotional support
Use specialised dementia communication tools to handle confusion and agitation, and offer guidance to patient family members
Deliver dignified palliative and end-of-life care with effective pain observation, comfort measures and family emotional support
Demonstrate full mastery of foundational caregiving skills via integrated practical assessment covering ADLs, vital signs, transfers, infection control and emergency response
This course acts as the capstone training for all entry and intermediate caregivers, combining emergency response, mental health support and end-of-life care to prepare fully rounded professionals for nursing home, home care and clinical support environments.
